"A mystical man, stern and upright while at the same time dark and mysterious.." โ€“game description. While he is quiet, or a man of few words, he can often say quite a lot with what words he does share as well as his physical presence. Vincent tends to brood and isolate more than he spends his time with others. Although, as indicated in Advent Children and On the Way to a Smile "Episode: Nanaki", Vincent is someone who keeps watch of others. In Advent Children he is seen rescuing Cloud, Tseng, and Elena without invitation to where these characters are in the film. In Episode Nanaki Vincent intervenes Nanaki during another situation in which Vincent wasn't necessarily extended an invitation to. "Defeat Sephiroth... Defeat the son of that beloved woman... Am I on the verge of committing another sin...? Or am I atoning as best I can for only watching...?" โ€”Vincent Valentine, FFVII. I see Vincent as a character who keeps record of Gaia's (the world of FFVII) events, a historian. While he's afflicted with a great depressing guilt for lack of successions in his past, Vincent appears to be mostly nonparticipant in the world's affairs "atoning best I can for only watching.." I believe Vincent has a personal interest in Gaia's current events and committing them to memory as part of his "atonement." Vincent's involvement often follows the guide of external motivations; other characters pleading, asking, or convincing him to join their cause. Vincent's intrinsic motivators range from actions he would consider to be atonement for failures in his life and or vengeance for slights. Vincent's involvement makes him more of a biased historian rather than an objective record keeper. "I used to be nothing but a stone in the river of time, but three years ago it was you and the others who taught me I had to move ahead." โ€”Vincent Valentine, Dirge of Cerberus. Despite the quote being taken from later in the game, after the timeline I take Vincent from, I believe the sentiment is relevant. "I had to move ahead," which may help explain Vincent's interventions throughout his life after the original FFVII game.

"Nojima has noted that Vincent is naturally a loner, and had he not been a former ally of Cloud and his friends, he probably would not have joined them to fight Bahamut SIN in Advent Children."โ€”giantbomb. Vincent does engage in relationships with others and even has friends. He is a part of the main party in FFVII and becomes close to many of them, some more than others, as mentioned in the Dirge of Cerberus game he sometimes visits Cid Highwind. When he is not visiting with his friends/acquaintances I believe he still keeps an eye on them, from a distance. As mentioned before he sometimes shows up in scenarios uninvited. Vincent can be a supportive listener as well as a harsh judge of character at other times, โ€œI don't care what you are doing, so much as the idiotic way that you are doing it.โ€ โ€”Vincent Valentine, FFVII. Vincent is loyal as indicated by Nojima's statement as well as some of the evidence across the various FFVII installments. Vincent is seen attending to his previous allies, his friends, in various situations. When Reeve asks Vincent for help in Dirge of Cerberus Vincent turns him down. However, shown in this clip, Vincent comes around in the end, "alright what do you want me to do?" There are two main reasons I believe Vincent had this change of mind. The first was seeing Reeve struck down and the next was seeing Cait Sith once again - a party member from FFVII.

"Am I losing control?"โ€”Vincent Valentine, Dirge of Cerberus. Vincent harbors a collection of beasts, bequeathed to him from Hojo some years ago. He was manipulated, experimented on, and given special powers from Gaia in the form of items called materia. The materia help him control the beasts within him, however, he does transform into them from time to time. In FFVII we see the transformations as "limit breaks," which ultimately help the party combat enemies they come across in their journey. It appears Vincent goes through a great deal of effort to keep the beasts tamed as evidenced through some of the game play in Dirge of Cerberus as well as in the movie Advent Children. In the film we don't see him transform even with facing against powerful enemies (boss battle!). I also believe Vincent maintains his control over the beasts by picking his battles carefully. Opening old wounds from the past can and will leave him vulnerable and more susceptible to transformation.

"You see boy, the reason you were able to play such a perfect host for Chaos was because my experiments had endowed you with a nearly indestructible body... Thanks to me, you are standing here today."โ€”Hojo, Dirge of Cerberus. Vincent is conflicted with the idea Hojo has given him something uniquely coveted: immortality (this is proven untrue further down the story line, but remains unknown to Vincent at his current timeline). In one hand Hojo is responsible for so much destruction and in the other hand Hojo is also responsible for arming Vincent with the power he needs to seek retribution.

โœฉ In Game Setting:
[ Vincent didn't have an invitation to the upper levels of the Security Station, but he was beckoned there nevertheless. He scaled the outside walls, flashes of red waved beside windowsills and to anyone looking out from the glass panel may have caught a glimpse of the movement. He wasn't intending to draw attention to himself, which was why he took to the concrete between the windows, but his cape was something of a free-spirit. It stretches out around him and peeks in through the windows as if the sight would qualm some curiosity of its own. Vincent was amorphous as he ascended the building quickly, like a plastic bag picked up quickly by a gust of wind and shot up the side of a wall.

He has yet chosen an expertise for himself and part of the reason he's currently exploring the building was to get a sense from this place, if any was to be had. What would it feel like to be here more than other places? Would he feel more aligned on these grounds versus the Power Plant tower? Or perhaps the familiarity of the Hangar in the Pink District would be more comfortable. Vincent still feels unsettled despite being here for over a week. This world was not his own and he felt out of place, uncomfortable, and even more so disturbed sharing the sentiment with the other compeers.

The air is clean, crisp, and cool. Vincent lingers on one of the edges of the tall tower and looks across from the side he's climbed up from. He then journeys the circumference of the tower and takes in the sweeping view of the city.

After panoramic view Vincent settles on the edge of the tower and pulls out the communicator. The knowledge of how to use this device wasn't there prior to the "download" into is consciousness the day he arrived and he still wonders if one day he'll forget how to function it, much like he'll forget one expertise for another should he choose to.

He creates a text message to post on the network:

Are there any available expertise for combat here?
